Every now and then we hear amazing stories about how the Apple Watch saves someone’s life. Most people think it’s empty marketing and all this human rescue is an exaggeration of the situation. Some, however, are different just like today’s story of an 82-year-old man who received his watch for Christmas.

The watch called an ambulance after detecting an accident?

The whole situation took place in the town of Kidderminster in the UK. The 82-year-old man was returning to his car after shopping and crossing the street. At the same time, a driver near the traffic circle cut a corner, resulting in him being in the wrong lane. The man fell and the next thing he saw was the bumper of the car in front of him.
Moments later, the watch detected the fall and asked if he wanted to call 911. The man followed the instructions, as a result of which the device contacted the relevant services.

According to the newspaper, the senior survived the entire incident with a broken collarbone, cracked ribs and several more serious bruises. The whole thing could have ended much worse had it not been for the man’s watch and its unusual function.

Apple Watch saves lives? A few words about the technology itself

Apple has been equipping its watches with fall and collision detection for some time. If the device detects a serious fall, after which a person cannot move for more than a minute, the watch will switch to the appropriate mode. The device will allow us to play a loud sound and contact the emergency services when we can’t do it ourselves.

Personally, I would never want anyone to face a similar situation, but it’s good to know that Apple is constantly developing this feature, making it much more useful for all users of their watches.
