Last year, MSI introduced a 1-click boost option for its Z790 MAX series motherboards. The option offered clock boosts reaching a dizzying 6.3 GHz on 14th generation processors. Currently, the manufacturer continues to work on its technology and is preparing it for the debut of the i9 14900KS processor. Out of the box, the processor will offer operating frequencies reaching 6.2 GHz. No other processor currently in production accelerates to such a clock speed. This makes the i9 14900KS the fastest processor ever installed in home computers.
The race to get the highest possible clocking
Intel’s latest processor will offer an unprecedented clock speed of 6.2 GHz. This is another demonstration of the capabilities of Silicon Valley engineers, showing that silicon still has a lot to offer. Just a few years ago, it was said that we were already at the very ceiling when it came to processor clocking, and it doesn’t look like further development in this regard will be possible with current technologies. However, microprocessor designers are showing that pushing further limits is only a matter of time, and silicon chips are still suitable for the development of this microchip.
Clocking is one thing, but what about power consumption?
Naturally, such a frequency of operation will come at the price, to put it mildly, of increased power consumption.
