Some time ago Netflix introduced a cheaper alternative to its traditional plans. Well, it offered an even cheaper option, but one that included additional ads displayed while using the platform. Unfortunately, we now learn that Netflix is ending the sale of the cheapest of the plans without ads. Only the one with ads will remain.
Popularity of subscription with ads surprises
As the data shows, the cheapest subscription, which additionally includes ads, is quite popular. Users are happy to save a few zlotys, even at the expense of displayed ads. Of course, a certain number of subscribers, remained on their current plans, as they wanted to avoid the display of unwanted content. They had every right to do so, but that’s over now.
Netflix drops cheapest plan, though not in Poland for now
According to available information, the changes will come in soon, but initially only in Austria, Canada and the UK. The company is known to test the changes on a certain group of customers and see how they respond. Currently, islanders pay £8 a month for the cheapest plan. The variant with ads costs £5, which, as if you look at it, is quite a bit cheaper. The other thing is that at this point there is no longer a choice as to whether ads can be displayed or not.
Netflix throws in something extra as “compensation”
The company understands full well that this move may cause outrage among some of their customers. For this reason, they will upgrade the quality of the content from the current 720p to 1080p, which is quite a leap. In addition, it will be possible to watch videos from two devices at the same time, rather than just one, as has been the case so far.
Will the change also extend to Poland? It’s hard to say, as for now there are only plans to test it in a maximum of a few countries. Only the results of these tests will determine whether the change will be global.
